The
Venue: Most of our performances are held at The Center for Well-Being, a 100 year old former church that’s currently used as a yoga and massage facility. The hall has unusually wonderful acoustics and ambience. Though the room seats 100 people concert style, the feeling is somewhat like a large house concert. We also hold occasional concerts at the 600-seat State College High School, and recently have partnered with WPSU FM to hold concerts in their studios which seats about 160. We also use other local venues as the need arises.
Booking Main
Acts: For main acts, we generally book fairly well-known
regional or national artists. For representative examples, please
browse schedules of past seasons.
We
do occasionally book lesser known performers if someone on our booking
committee has heard them live or if they’ve previously played an
opening
act for us. If you believe your act is of the appropriate quality
and name recognition, please check first by sending email to our
booking committee coordinator.
Please don't send us unsolicited promo packs for main acts slots.
It only makes us feel bad when we have to say no!
Booking
Opening Acts: We have an opener at almost every
show.
Opening acts generally play a 20 minute set and are paid between $60
and
$120 depending on the number of musicians and the distance
travelled. Under special circumstances, we’ll sometimes have a 30
minute opening set and / or pay a bit more. Many of our opening acts
have been invited back to play main acts.

The opening act committee welcomes submissions. We review between
30 and 40 submissions per season for 5-7 slots, so please help us focus
on your strengths as they relate to the types of music we
present.
Orient submissions to represent the sort of show you would do at the
Brew. If there are multiple musicians on the CD or cuts you send, indicate clearly
which ones would be coming and which cuts represent your live
show. If sending a CD , please write your email address and phone number right on
the
CD.
The deadline for consideration is April 15 for our fall season and
August 15 for the the following spring, though we'd appreciate having your materials
as soon as you can send them. The earlier you send your demo or submit your sonicbids EPK, the
greater our opportunity to listen to it will be. Send submissions to
the
attention of the Opening Act Committee at the following address:
Acoustic Brew Opening Act Committee
Box 1090
Lemont, PA 16851.

(No) Sound Systems: One requirement of all our performers (with rare exception) is the willingness to play without a sound system. The acoustics in the main venue, the Center for Well Being, are excellent, and our audiences have come to expect fully acoustic shows. This requirement has nothing to do with not owning or having access to a sound system. Rather, it has to do with the acoustics of the venue, the expectations of the audience, and the philosophy of the booking committee. For our occasional shows at the larger venues, we do use a sound system.
